The Interaction between Metals and Chelating Agents in Mammalian Spermatozoa

چکیده
Several studies have been made on the bacteriostatic and fungicidal properties of oxine (8-hydroxyquinoline) and other chelating agents, and it has been suggested that they might act, in part at least, by depriving cells of essential trace metals (Albert, 1951; Martell & Calvin, 1952). In an attempt to determine the trace element requirements of mammalian spermatozoa, White (1955) investigated the effect of several chelating agents on motility. A number were found to be toxic to ram, bull, rabbit and human spermatozoa. In fact some (e.g. sodium diethyl dithiocarbamate, i-nitroso-2naphthol and ethyl potassium xanthate) were much more spermicidal than oxine, which has long been used as a chemical contraceptive in the form of Chinasol. Tests with bull semen showed that cobalt reduced the toxicity of sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, nitrosonaphthol and o-phenanthroline. Other mixtures of heavy metals and chelating agents were, however, more toxic than the chelating agents alone. Further studies on the interaction between metals and chelating agents in bull, ram, rabbit and human spermatozoa are presented in this paper.

The Stabilising and Chelating Effects of Green and Roasted Coffee Extracts
ABSTRACT: Oxidation might be regarded as one of the most important reaction in oils and fats. Prooxidants namely iron and copper intensify and catalyze the oxidation while the chelating agents might retard or delay this process. Citric acid, phosphoric acid, some of phenolic compounds and phospholipids are considered as the compounds that chelate the prooxidant metals and through this mechanism...

In this research a pot experiment was carried out to investigate the remediation ability of E. camaldulensis Dehnh inLead-Zinc (Pb-Zn) contaminated soil. The study also investigated the effects of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid(EDTA) and diethylenetrinitrilopentaacetic acid (DTPA) on the phytoremediation efficiency of the plant species, andharvest time as a suitable dose of chelating agents wa...
متن کاملSize Control of Ag3PO4 Nanoparticles Using Monoethanolamine and Oleylamine Chelating Agents
In the present investigation, a systematic study on the dependence of chelating agents on the size control of silver phosphate Ag3PO4 powders is presented. The effect of two different capping-ligands (monoethanolamine (MEA) and oleylamine (OLA) as amino-additives) is studied using sol-gel route. Structural and morphological characterization techniques were used to quantify...
متن کاملEvaluation of Barium Sulfate (Barite) Solubility Using Different Chelating Agents at a High Temperature
Barium sulfate (barite) is one of the widely used weighting materials in the preparation of drilling fluid for deep oil and gas wells. Barite is not soluble in the regular solvents; such as, hydrochloric acid (HCl) and other acids. Therefore, in this study, we focused on evaluating the dissolution of the industrial barite particles in different chelating agents. Chelating agents; such as, dieth...
